Artist Statement

My interdisciplinary practice is rooted in the belief that creativity is a means of imagining, building, and actualizing new possibilities. Across visual art, textiles, natural dyes, installation, sound, and participatory practice, I explore interconnectedness: between people and the natural world, between memory and material, and between individual expression and collective transformation.

Throughout my career, I have come to understand teaching as an essential extension of this practice. I work to inspire future generations to recognize themselves as artists, makers, and changemakers. When someone is given the space to create unapologetically and with feeling, they begin to experience their own capacity to bring something into existence that did not exist before.

To me, that realization extends far beyond art. It allows us to imagine that a different future—for ourselves, our communities, and our planet—is possible, and that we have the agency to participate in creating it.

In my teaching practice, I encourage experimentation, curiosity, collaboration, and the freedom to make without fear of perfection. I am particularly interested in creating environments where young people and community members can explore materials, tell their own stories, and learn through both individual and collective making.

I believe creative people have the capacity to build loving and safe environments rooted in healing, spontaneity, imagination, and care. As both an artist and educator, I see creation as an ongoing exchange: I share the tools and knowledge I have gathered, while the perspectives, questions, and imaginations of the people I teach continually transform how I understand my own practice.

For me, making art and teaching art ultimately come from the same impulse:

To create is to believe that something else is possible.
